FAQ #8: What does deviantART consider to be Art Theft?
FAQ #306: Does "Crediting" let me use whatever I want?

The reason DeviantArt took them down was because A) they're against the Terms of Service of this gallery (the ones you agreed to when you joined), since they're not yours and you didn't have permission to use them and B) because the BBC does not allow it's images to be modified or reused in any way. They can and will sue those who do.
